Economic Stability Caseworker

JOB OVERVIEW
The Economic Stability Caseworker is responsible for reviewing the requests of clients who are experiencing economic instability.  The caseworker will conduct an assessment with each client, evaluate their needs and determine appropriate resources to meet those needs on an individual basis in accordance with policies and procedures and current federal, state and local standards, and partner agencies guidelines and regulations.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Emergency Assistance / Homeless Prevention
  • Screens for appropriate candidates for available services and funding
  • Conducts assessment with each family, single adult or youth
  • Counsels with applicants regarding long-range needs and assists applicant in planning to meet those needs
  • Provides financial assistance as appropriate using available, discretionary funds
  • Inputs complete, accurate data in MAAC Link as it relates to status, programs and services within 24 hours of client interview
  • Maintains records of clients and services provided
  • Maintains accurate in-house ledger of funds available for client needs
  • Assists clients with job search skills
  • Coordinates agency collaboration with Kansas City’s Medicine Cabinet
  • Maintains current community resource information to provide to clients as appropriate
  • Assists with development and implementation of life skills classes
  • Generates and provides monthly reports of clients and services provided
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director
 
Community interaction/meetings
  • Participates in community meetings, such as Homeless Services Coalition, Community Resource Connection, Point in Time Committee and/or other community meetings deemed necessary by agency
  • Networks with other homeless service providers
  • Advocates for suitable community resources
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Minimum – some college hours in human service or at least 2 years in human services field
  • Preferred – college degree in human services or related field
 
Training and Experience:
  • Minimum – 2 years of supervised human services work experience working directly with individuals and families
  • Preferred – 4 years of supervised human services work experience working directly with individuals and families
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
●Ability to make decisions which reflect the best interests of the client and the organization, uses sound judgment and is consistent in decisions regarding clients
●Ability to interact effectively with clients, staff, volunteers and other agencies
●Ability to work with disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile clients
●Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
●Ability to professionally and effectively interact with clients in person, in writing and over the phone
●Must be able to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications with familiarity with use of data bases
●Ability to operate general office equipment
●basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook) and keyboarding skills
●Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle.
●Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
●Able to function in busy office environment
●Able to work in close quarters with others in cooperative effort to complete tasks
●Able to maintain confidentiality in interaction with clients and staff
