Caring About Community

Community Assistance Council was established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 1976 to serve those less fortunate in south Kansas City.
CAC's mission is to empower individuals and families to self-sufficiency through the delivery of direct emergency assistance, education and advocacy.

CAC feeds the hungry, prevents homelessness through emergency rent assistance, helps maintain utilities, provides basic hygiene and diapers, helps clients attain critical documents (ID, Social Security cards, birth certificates) and connects clients to medical and mental health supports, and legal, job, education and other resources. CAC also offers Thanksgiving and Christmas meal kits, computers for resume writing and job applications, and short-term case management. CAC works with dozens of community partners to support individual, family and community health and stability.

CAC's primary service area includes all of the Hickman Mills (in blue), Center (in green) and Kansas City, Mo., part of the Grandview (in yellow) school districts. However, we serve many individuals and families throughout the metro depending on the specific program and funding restrictions.
